The Mystery and Value of Autoresponders

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008
Jim DeSantis asked:

I have been doing some research on autoresponders recently, learning how it all works, what it costs to add an autoresponder to my many blogs and websites, and exactly how I want to use this great tool. Autoresponders are remarkable, versatile programs that do so much more than just automatically send you email.

Here are a few ways others are creatively and productively using autoresponders to grow a list of like-minded people who want helpful information sent directly to their email box. Also, you can make some money at the same time.

1. Publish a newsletter.

Most quality autoresponders will manage newsletter subscriptions and follow-up automatically. They even automatically handle unsubscribe, without you lifting a finger. Your newsletter can keep your visitors informed about your latest thoughts, your services or products, while building your reputation as a credible expert.

2. Write reviews.

On topics that fit your area of expertise, write reviews of hard cover books, software, music, e-books, movies, TV shows, etc., and put each review in an autoresponder.

3. Distribute your articles.

Writing and distributing targeted articles is a powerful tool to build your credibility, bring traffic to your site, and increase your sales potential if you have products to sell. If your articles contain valuable information, many editors will print what is known as a resource box for you. A resource box contains your bio and a brief description of your service or product. It can also contain your autoresponder address.

Let’s say you’ve written fifty articles. Feed them to your autoresponder subscribers with an invitation for them to republish your articles on their blog or website, unedited of course. Each of your articles should include an Author box with links to your main website or blog.

4. Create mailing lists.

Inform subscribers to your articles when you’ve written new ones that they may want to publish in their own newsletter or website. If you run many blogs as I do, create an autoresponder for each topic, that way your subscribers only receive information targeted to their area of interest. Most quality autoresponder services allow unlimited autoresponder accounts. Avoid any that limit the number of autoresponders accounts or who charge based on the number of emails you send. Above all, avoid free autoresponders.

5. Sell something and automate your sales process.

Again, if you sell anything online, use an ad to insure repeated exposure of your message. There are many free classified websites. Just do a search. The biggest is Craig List. This has been proven to effectively increase sales. In your ad, put the URL of your sales page and your autoresponder address so visitors will be exposed to numerous marketing materials. This multiplies the chances of converting visitors into customers.

For example, if you’re selling a particular product, put testimonials about how spectacular it is on your autoresponder, and add a detailed, enticing description of your product with a direct link to the sales page.

6. Distribute advertising.

Let’s say you sell advertising on your website or in your newsletter or e-zine. When you write your email messages, tag each message with information about your offer and let the autoresponder send the information about rates and how to place an ad automatically to everyone on your list. Then have your autoresponder follow-up. It can also send notification of any special advertising deals you are currently offering.

7. Distribute an email course.

If you have created an email course, each day, have your autoresponder send out another lesson. Just be sure that each lesson has quality content and only a subtle sales pitch. Your content will do the selling for you, and will do it much more effectively. You can include tips centered on a different topic for each lesson, then point them to your product which will benefit the reader. Again, do NOT hard sell. Let your quality lessons sell for you.

A good example is how I promote Article Post Robot at the end of each post on my blogs. See my Author Box below.

8. Automate a reminder about your service or product after a visitor has completed your course. This will increase the possibility of sales from visitors who have taken your course but are dragging their feet about actually making a purchase. You can also use these reminders to promote new products or services.

9. Distribute free reports.

This gives your visitor an idea of the type of information you can provide and the quality of your product or service. Make sure these reports are not sales letters or you will more than likely lose a potential customer than gain a sale.

10. Create polls on your site and place the results in an autoresponder.

Your visitor will then be motivated to sign up in your autoresponder, and you will have a record of the visitor’s email address who participated in the poll. Or create a contest or trivia quiz and have any visitors that want to participate send their responses to your autoresponder. Your autoresponder can be set-up to send them a confirmation of their entry.

11. Offer a trial version of your product.

Give your prospects a sample of your eBook, course, software, membership, etc. People who are exposed to a little taste often end up wanting the whole pie. You will capture their email address when you offer them a free trial from your website. Set up your autoresponder to give instructions on how to obtain their free trial, and then make sure to follow-up to try and close the sale.

12. Link to pages on your autoresponder.

For example, a page could be your sales page that contains graphics, promotional articles, and text links that interested visitors might want to consider.

13. Use an autoresponder on your order page.

Post a request form for visitors to be notified of special offers or discounts in the future. This creates a very effective mailing list that contains the names of people who are already your customers.

14. Create a links page for your autoresponder subscribers.

This is a page that stands by itself. Your links page should contain up to fifty links that would be of particular interest to your visitors. Make sure to add your promotional copy at the top or bottom of this page.

15. Finally, and this is most important.

You need to have an “unsubscribe” link in all email messages. You should also give your real name, address (if you are comfortable giving it) and your city and state at the bottom of every email message. The CanSpam Act requires you identify yourself as the sender. Do NOT send emails to anyone who has not requested contact from you. That is spamming and could get you blacklisted by your internet provider. Any emails I get that do not have a method to unsubscribe get reported as spam to my email provider.

These are only 15 of the many creative ways autoresponders are being used. My idea is to use an autoresponder to allow subscribers to download free eBooks and software that may be of interest.

As for costs, they are all over the map.

My blogs are hosted for free but do not have an autoresponder option, only email. However, I currently host four websites at a paid hosting service which has unlimited autoresponders as part of the hosting package that I am already paying for monthly. It’s a cheap date all around and it’s one of the top hosting services on the web. I can have as many autoresponders as I need at no additional charge.

Many hosting services offer similar advantages so shop around. Be sure they have top notch support because, in the beginning, you will probably need help. My host has 24/7 toll free telephone support and, believe me, I have used them many times. I am a newbie so I need all the help I can get.

I plan to add an autoresponder sign up box soon to all my blogs. Visitor sign ups will be redirected from my blogs to my autoresponders at my hosting service and the autoresponders will do the grunt work.

Autoresponders - another tool to attract more and more visitors!

Yours for success.

You will want to do a search online to find one if you don’t have a service you are using. While you are searching for a site to use you can keep your eyes open for the romance compatibility.

When you take a compatibility test online you will be asked for specific information about yourself such as your email address, your name whether you are female or male, and your birthday. This is the usual information that you are asked for although some of the sites will want different information. The test will also ask for the person’s name and birthday of the one you want to know if you are compatible with.

A lot of the online dating services will use astrology to help with the free romance compatibility test. You just have to search until you find a test that you can take that seems like a good one for you. Some people will prefer to take one test while others prefer to take another. It all comes down to what test you feel the best about taking.

You can also ask the person that you are dating to take a free test. See if they would be willing to do it. That right there will tell you a little bit about them. You and your online dating partner can just have fun with the test or you can take it seriously. It all just depends on you.

How to Create Valuable Information Products

Monday, October 13th, 2008
Pat O’bryan asked:

You hear it all the time, don’t you? “I’ve got this great idea for an e-book, I just don’t know how to write it.” Or, “I’ve been working on my e-book for months and I just can’t seem to finish it.”

I’ve talked to potential authors who have spent years struggling to write their first e-book!

What if I could show you how to write an interesting and valuable e-book instantly and effortlessly? Would you be interested?

One of my favorite images in American Literature is the young Tom Sawyer, who was commanded to white-wash a fence. It was a boring, tedious job and he really didn’t want to do it.

Knowing that if you want something other than the obvious to happen you have to do something other than the obvious, Tom pretended to have so much fun white-washing that fence that other boys literally begged him to let them do it.

I’ve taken Tom’s approach to fence painting and applied it to writing e-books.

Why Write An E-book?

There are several good reasons to become an e-book author.

1. Money. Information is big business. You can create a product once and sell it thousands or millions of times. Every aspect of the process can be automated except the actual writing-and with the tricks I’m about to show you, even the writing will be easy and painless.

2. Build your list. Every internet marketer knows that “the gold is in the list.” I’ve added thousands of names to my mailing list by giving away an e-book in exchange for email addresses. Once a person opts in to your list, you have their permission to contact them and tell them about the products you have for sale.

3. Increase your visibility and credibility. You will be viewed as an authority on the subjects you write about, provided you write informative and accurate e-books. If you can persuade a more prominent author to co-write with you, you increase your credibility.

In return, your co-author will receive the benefits of increased productivity, more visibility and more income.

4. Drive traffic to your other projects. Always include web site addresses in the header of your e-books. There are many opportunities to tempt your readers to explore your sales sites.

What To Write About

I can remember a time when there was no such thing as an e-book. I suspect that in the future all books will be e-books. Right now, the most successful e-books are nonfiction.

A look at the best selling e-books on Clickbank reveals titles like: “How to…,” “The Ten Secrets of…,” “Get Paid to…”

There is a school of thought that says you should diligently research the search engines and current clickbank inventory to find out what people want and then write your e-book targeting the identified market, regardless of your interest in or knowledge of the subject.

This strikes me as similar to trying to drive while looking in your rearview mirror. Although research is good, this particular research only tells you what’s behind you. It seems to come from a mindset of scarcity-as if you can only write one e-book! With the tools I’m about to give you, you can write an e-book a day if you want to.

The “next big thing” is going to come from someone who comes up with something new and different-why shouldn’t it be you?

You should pick a subject that interests you, and one that you already know something about. If you have experience working on cars, you might consider writing a book on basic automobile maintenance.

Target a specific market. This e-book is for people who are writing their first e-book. If I were writing for Literature Majors in Graduate School, I would write an entirely different book.

Using our example of a book on automobile maintenance, you could target housewives, teenage girls, senior citizens, or people who own vintage Fords. In my opinion, a book on that subject that would be valuable to all those groups would be too long and complex for the e-book format.

The Public Domain

For information about copyrights and the public domain, go to http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html

Here’s a brief run-down of the rules. If am not a lawyer, and this is not meant to be legal advice. If you’re unsure, hire a lawyer!

Almost anything copyrighted before 1923 is in the public domain.

Some works published between 1923 and 1989 without proper copyright notice, and works published before 1964 whose copyrights weren’t renewed, may be in the public domain.

Tony Laidig’s book, The Public Domain Code Book has an exhaustive list of resources for finding public domain books. I recommend it highly.

Several internet marketing fortunes have been made by recycling out of print books that have lapsed into the public domain. The laws concerning public domain have changed through the years.

There is a virtually endless supply of valuable and useful books that, with a new title and a modern cover, still have lots of life-and sales- left in them.

Once you’re absolutely sure that the book you’re interested in recycling is in the public domain, you’re free to copy, augment, edit, repackage and sell it. There are some tricks to this-if you’re not sure, ask a lawyer-but once you’ve learned the ground rules, you’ve got the accumulated inventory of centuries of writing at your disposal.

If you use a public domain work as a starting place, and add your own original material to it, you have created a “derivative work” and may be able to copyright that!

Here’s a hint: almost all government publications are in the public domain.

Find a Work In The Public Domain

A quick Google search found these resources. This will change daily.

Project Gutenberg has over ten thousand books online. Many of them are in the public domain.

Their license page explains the rules. Project Gutenberg mainly focuses on literature.

Books For a Buck has an index of sources for free books, many of them in the public domain.

The Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts has an online search engine for finding public domain works.

The Internet Public Library is another search engine for finding public domain works.

The Digital Library at Dartmouth has some good links.

Rebrand a Public Domain Work

If you find a book in the public domain, or acquire the rights to an existing book, you have the option of “rebranding” that book.

There have been several successful e-books whose authors merely changed the title and cover on existing public domain works.

If a book is out of print but not in the public domain, there’s a good chance the author will sell you all or part of the rights.

Once you’ve acquired your book, you need to “rebrand” it. A great title and cover is all you need.

There is an art to creating effective titles for e-books. The title is your headline. An interesting and arresting title is your most effective selling tool.

Remember that people buy benefits. How those benefits are created is less interesting to a reader than what the benefits are. Remember, the question your potential buyer is asking is, “what’s in it for me?”

A book on investing? The benefits would be increased financial security, increased buying power, and financial freedom. The title, “Fire Your Boss” will sell more e-books than “A Comparative Analysis of Market Index Financial Products,” although both books might have the same content.

Look for the positive outcome for your reader. Will your recipe book help them lose weight or find a mate? “Sexy Salads” will probably sell a lot more copies than “Roughage Recipes For A Clean Colon.” A lot more.

Write a Workbook or Study Guide Using A Public

Domain Work

One of the fastest ways to create a new product using existing material is to write a workbook or study guide.

My first e-book, co-written with Joe Vitale, was The Think and Grow Rich Workbook. Thousands of people have found success by applying the techniques that Napoleon Hill describes in his book.

It was Joe who pointed out that one edition of the book had lapsed into the public domain. Only one edition, and I’m not going to tell you which one. Don’t try this at home.

Sitting in my favorite coffee shop, I harvested the rich fruit from the book and reverse engineered it. . I sent it to Joe and he added his hypnotic contributions. Voila! An e-book was born.

We gave away a copy to everybody who subscribed to the Milagro Research Institute e-zine, Milagro World (www.milagroworld.com). This increased our list by several thousand names in a very short time, and has resulted in some exciting viral marketing.

Since we launched that workbook, I’ve learned a valuable lesson. Although a book may be out of print, its title may be a “trademark.” I learned this lesson from the Napoleon Hill Foundations very efficient legal department. It turns out that, although the book, and the title, have lapsed into the public domain, the title “Think and Grow Rich,” is a trademark of the Napoleon Hill Foundation.

They also claim that the words “Grow Rich,” when used in the title of a product, will create confusion in the consumer’s mind.

The concept of “confusion in the consumer’s mind” is pretty vague- and I suspect the party with the most predatory attorneys will prevail if it ever came to litigation. The mere threat of litigation is enough to cause most authors, including me, to rename their products.

When I write, I like to work from an outline. Many authors do. It’s a great tool for organizing your thoughts. You can break a large, intimidating project down into smaller, more manageable projects.

To create a workbook, it’s useful to work backwards and make an outline from the existing book. Write down the title of the chapter.

Now go through the chapter and write down the major points. The idea is to strip away everything but the essential facts.

Once you’ve distilled the chapter down to the bare necessities, put it back together again in your own words. Pretend that you’re using your notes to tell a friend what the chapter is about. If your friends are anything like mine, you’ll want to tell them in clear simple sentences.

You can increase the value of your workbook, and get more mileage out of your work, by including a chapter quiz. Go back and pick out a handful of the most important facts from each chapter and restate them in question form.

For example, if one of your facts is “The capital of Texas is Austin,” you might write “What is the Capital of Texas?” I told you this was easy!

Creative and Constructive Ways to Deal with Autoreponders

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

In the glimpse of an eye, your guest exits your site, and your purchase is dust - unless you have had the insight to use an autoresponder that has captured her email address. Diabetes Awareness: I’ll Wait ’til it Hurts

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008
Ackley Debid asked:

By the time many type 2 diabetics (and often their doctors) realize action is necessary, the disease, with its destructive high blood sugars, has been silently damaging their body for years.

Complications to the blood vessels and tissues of your eyes, feet, heart, kidneys, and other organs, are likely well underway.

You visit the doctor because you feel bad, and you wish to feel better. You react to the symptoms of perceived illness. This is understandable, but does not allow much room for prevention or early detection of diabetes.

Of course this idea, “Don’t see the doctor ’til it hurts,” comes from our “busier-then-ever” lifestyles. But to blame, to point fingers after the damage has started is as pointless as is the leaping bungee-jumper’s complaint that his equipment has just failed. It’s a little late to talk about why. Some problems are better prevented.

If you have type 2 diabetes, you know most of the time you don’t feel very bad. You might think that because you don’t feel very bad, it isn’t very serious, and you don’t have to do anything about it just now. "I’ll wait ’til it hurts" …You couldn’t be more wrong.

Diabetes damages your body with high blood sugars. It doesn’t care whether your sugars are high from type 2, type 1, or some other cause — if they’re up, they’re doing damage. Type 2 diabetics who let their sugars run “because they don’t feel bad” are doing serious damage to their eyes, kidneys, hearts, and nervous systems.

Suppose you have diabetes, and don’t want the complications. Suppose you don’t know you have diabetes, but you’re from a high-risk group (maybe someone in your family has or had diabetes), and you want to cut the risks. Or, suppose you just want to feel better.

It’s all the same — Your early detection, education, and prevention work best.

Don’t wait ’til it hurts. Ask your doctor about diabetes and have your blood sugar checked several times a year.

When stressed out, it is natural to look out for some options that would make us feel relaxed. Stress management is something that would provide us the kind of relief we want from our lives.

Stress is unavoidable and hence, it is very important to find out different ways to stay away from incidents full of stress and reduce the amount of negative reactions to stress. Here are some tips that you can follow to make your life beautiful and stress free.

• Be aware of stressors and your reactions toward them

You should notice your distress. Never ignore it. Try to make out what tends to distress you more. Notice the way your body responds to stress.

• Stay away from negative self talk

Most of us don’t realize but we tend to become pessimistic at most situations. A lot of stress is created from what we talk to ourselves. Our ‘should’ and ‘musts’ tend to put us in great trouble. You should take out some time for yourself and listen to the messages coming to you from your inner self.

Whenever, you happen to engage yourself in negative self talk, replace the thought instantly and replace the thought with a realistic one. The whole process may take some time but it is worth practicing. In the long run, you would be benefited a lot from these exercises.

• Face the reality

You should know exactly what you can change and what you cannot. Building a sense of control within yourself can reduce a lot of stress. Some situations are away from our personal influence. Hence, it is important to accept. Believe in the phrase ‘whatever happens, happens for the best.’

• Build up your physical reserves

You need to exercise. This will improve your cardiovascular fitness. Walk, swim, cycle or jog. These exercises will help you maintain a healthy body and also work towards relieving stress.

• Diet

Focus on your diet. Eat a well balanced but nutritious diet. This will let you maintain your ideal weight, avoid nicotine and excessive in take of coffee.

• Don’t make a fuss about little things

Making maintains out of molehill will only increase stress level in body.

• Be kind

You need to talk to your friends and be kind to yourself in order to remove stress in your life.

• Loosen your body

Stop frowning. Just laugh. It is better to have laugh lives on your face rather than frown lines.

• Let others pitch in

Don’t bother to do everything by yourself. Let others help you in doing certain tasks.

• Walk

If you can’t join a fitness program, don’t worry. You can walk away your stress via going for short or long walks in your leisure time.

Stress management is not a difficult task. It is easy if you follow all the useful tips mentioned above. All the best!
