Insulin Sensitivity

Monday, June 30th, 2008
George Tohme asked:

If you have Type 2 Diabetes or pre-diabetes, insulin is actually being secreted with abundance in your blood but because of several factors such as excess belly fat and physical inactivity, insulin can’t bind to the sugar in your blood and have it stored in the largest body organ which are your muscles.

This problem is called insulin resistance which if not addressed can lead to diabetes complications, heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol leading to heart attacks and strokes. This resistance problem is now seen among Type 1 diabetics as well since Americans have become physically inactive with an all time high body weight; both of which are major contributors to insulin resistance and consequently to pre-diabetes and diabetes.

But worse yet, since insulin is available in your blood in large quantity, it can still perform it’s other task, which is to store fat in your belly area. The large amounts of fats from the fatty burgers, fried food and the extra large sugar laden soft drinks that you consume every day have no place to go but your body fat and arteries. By the way, sugar from foods and beverages (soft drinks, latte, sweet tea and juices) are readily transformed into fat. Weight gain along with physical inactivity keep on fueling the insulin resistance problem making your diabetes worse and if you’re pre-diabetic you become a full-blown diabetic.

Insulin’s function is 3 folds: 1) The uptake of Glucose (sugar) from the blood and storing it in the liver and muscles in the form of Glycogen, 2) The up take of fat, from the food we eat, from our blood and storing it in the fatty deposits in the belly area and under the skin all over the body, 3) the uptake of protein, from the food we eat, from the blood and storing it in the muscle.

T he most efficient ways diabetics and pre-diabetics can become more sensitive to the effects of insulin is weight loss by making balanced food choices AND ACTIVITY . Activity is necessary for all people of all ages and gender. But for diabetics it is crucial to defeat this deadly disease and it’s complications. Sadly, only a minority of all those diabetics, pre-diabetics lead an active lifestyle, the rest remain sedentary and suffer the worsening consequences of their condition.

Why activity? Because muscles in our bodies which are the largest of all the body’s organs use sugar as the main form of fuel. So when you become more diligently active your muscles will burn energy and become partially depleted of Sugar. Now when your insulin is secreted from you pancreas it will bind to the sugar in your blood and will store it in your muscles in the form of a substance called “Glycogen”.

So when you become more active not only you are causing the sugar in your blood to be reduced but also you are making your insulin more sensitive and you will be losing weight in the process hence resolving the problem of insulin resistance; triple positive whammy to your health.

Why weight loss? When fat builds up in your belly area around your vital organs two very deadly things happen. Research confirms that the fat in your belly area contributes directly to artery disease and Plaque formation that block your arteries leading to heart disease and heart attacks. Also, research confirms that the more belly fat you have the lower the levels of a hormone called “Adiponectin” which is an essential hormone to make your insulin work best. As belly fat goes up the lower this substance becomes and the more insulin resistant you become. So as you lose weight this situation is reversed and your insulin returns to normal function.

You can become active in a gradual process aiming at walking about 10 to 12 thousand steps daily. Refer to “Lifestyle Makeover for Diabetics and Pre-Diabetics” for more details on Lifestyle Makeover tips.

In fact, to visually witness the blood sugar lowering effect of walking, try this at home with your sugar monitor. Take a sugar reading before a 20-minute brisk walking bout and take another reading immediately after. Before your eyes you will witness how your sugar dropped as a result of your muscles taking up the sugar from your blood.

T he answer is ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY AND MORE ACTIVITY. Along with balanced food choices you achieve ultimate blood sugar control and reversal of pre-diabetes.

Out of control diabetes and diabetes complications are very deadly but you are in charge and you have the capacity to bring diabetes under control. Consequently you can expect to live with controlled diabetes or reverse it and enjoy a natural lifespan complication free and the best quality of life. Diabetes and pre-diabetes can be totally managed and even reversed but only when you start making balanced and favorable lifestyle choices.

The Amazing World of Online Trivia and Trivia Games

Friday, June 27th, 2008
William Lund asked:

Long before the internet existed, the first book about trivia, titled appropriately “Trivia” was published in 1966. The incredible success of trivia books and quiz shows led up to the marketing of Trivial Pursuit, in the early 1980’s.

In the early 50’s television was beginning to pop up in homes all across America. Shows like the $64,000 Question, Twenty-One and Beat the Clock began to entertain the American household. Americans tuned in to quiz shows, drawn in by the large cash prizes. Between 1956 and 1958, it began to emerge that many of these popular quiz shows had been rigged. Quiz and game shows disappeared for awhile.

In 1964 the introduction of Jeopardy helped to bring back game shows, and restore the American people’s trust. Rigid new rules for contestants and limits on prize money guaranteed that the winners would win fairly.

The most popular board game ever created and the most popular television game show ever created were both based on trivia — and it’s no surprise why! Trivia entertains, challenges, and enlightens, all at the same time.

Then along came the internet. One trivia site I recently visited claims to have been operational since 1994! Trivia is simply booming on the internet. While online you can play all kinds of games, take part in countless quizzes, or laugh out loud with jokes. Some sites have software you can use to create custom trivia tournaments for special events, or your friends, family, or even for your website.

Some of the more popular trivia game sites are set up so you can earn things like points and badges for winning a certain number of games etc. Usually the points are for “fun” and comparison purposes only. Usually they cannot be turned in for prizes or for money. Some badges, require a lot of effort and dedication to earn, and others are a little easier.

Trivia games are not the only kind of games to be found, others include flash games, board games, adventure games, action games, and much more. There are games that take week-long battles to win, and timed games lasting only minutes. One trivia site claims it has over 1,000,000 trivia questions in 10,000 categories, created by over 30,000 different visitors to this site, from over 100 countries around the world. Over 1.4 million registered members and 6,000,000 guests have played a quiz.

Membership to most of the trivia game playing sites is free, and as a member you may play and create games, participate in forums, download software and utilize other services. However, most sites have a paid membership as well, and with the paid membership you don’t have to put up with the advertisements and stuff that the free members must endure, and your interactive game play will be faster. Usually there are other perks as well. There are even trivia websites where you can play for real money.

Some quizzes are multiple-choice format, some true/false, and others will are fill in the blank. The game sites record your scores and let you know how you are doing in relation to players who signed up at approximately the same time as you. Creating trivia games is pretty easy with the software on the game sites. Usually there are editors who will check over your games and quizzes and after a few days it appears online for people all over the world to play. It’s pretty cool.

Online you can create and play quizzes, do crossword puzzles, play picture puzzles, go on treasure hunts, and do brain teasers. There are games for children, forums, chat rooms, and tournaments. You will find action games, adventure games, mazes, number games and more. There are even multi-player interactive games you can participate in. You should have no problem finding all of this entertainment, just search for trivia at your favorite search engine and go explore the amazing world of online trivia for yourself.

The Seventh Abundance

Thursday, June 26th, 2008
Eric Garner asked:

. I’m going to show you that, despite your tight financial circumstances, you are infinitely richer than you think. And that, when you discover just how abundant your life is, your financial situation will dramatically change as well.

We tend to think that abundance, or wealth, or riches, or the flow of all good things, is confined to having money. Well, it isn’t. Here are six other kinds of abundance that are almost certainly available to you right now, without any investment or effort on your part. Once you focus on these areas of abundance, you will find that your AA, or “Abundance Attitude” will automatically trigger a corresponding reaction in the state of your finances and make you abundant financially as well.

1. Creative Abundance. Even if you don’t have a nickel, penny or a yen to your name, you can still have a torrent of great ideas. For the truth of the matter is that, while God did not create money, (it’s purely a human concept), He did create a thought-based Universe. There are no limits to your thoughts. You can have as many as you want. You can make them as grand as you want. Your thoughts literally travel around the Universe and even, say some, through all time. Allow yourself to dream of what you can bring into this world and you’ll realize how abundant you really are. More to the point, all your money-spinning ideas come from your thoughts. It’s a huge, free and endlessly renewable resource. Use it.

2. Choice Abundance. Unless you are reading this from a prison cell, you are a free person, with free will, and free choices about how to live your life. So, if your present circumstances are not what you want, all you have to do is change your choices for something else and you’ll get a different result. Choose another habit, another action, another way of working, another style, another task, another location, another venture. You have an abundance of choices in every moment of your life. Choose wisely.

3. Gifts Abundance. Many people who remain poor in their lives do so because they don’t realize how gifted they really are. They are locked in to a victim mentality where any number of excuses are used to explain why they don’t have what they want. There’s the excuse of “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not wealthy enough” or “I’m not lucky enough” or any other similar phrase. The truth is that God has not singled out anyone to have more gifts than anyone else. We are all uniquely – and abundantly – gifted. Once you find out what your gifts are – through a process of experience, trial and error, feedback from others, and honest self-assessment – then you’ll find yourself in an Aladdin’s cave of treasure that will grant you endless wishes for the rest of your life. You are abundantly talented and you owe it to God who has gifted you these talents to find them and use them.

4. Health Abundance. Even if you find yourself down on your luck financially, there’s no reason why you cannot bask in the glow of abundant health. One of the ironies of modern life is that many people are caught in the trap of working long hours in order to have enough money to buy the antidotes to the stressful and unhealthy lifestyle they lead. They work to excess so that they can buy the holidays they need to recover from their excessive working. The fact is, you were meant to live a healthy and abundant life, full of energy and vitality. It is your birthright. If you seek out how to live the abundantly healthy lifestyle you were meant to live, it may well be the financially wealthy who envy you!

5. Love Abundance. The idea that we are all abundant in love may sound sentimental, but there is no getting away from the fact that, while your capacity to earn has limits – even for the super-wealthy – your capacity to love and be loved is without limits. When you uncork the Love stoppers in your life, you release such a flow of good things for yourself and others, that it’s like champagne all the way. Give and show love to those who are important to you. Love strangers rather than fearing or judging them. Love every creature you share this planet with. Love what you do each day. And most of all love yourself. Don’t be sentimental about it. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. And there are no limits to it if you’ll just let yourself do it.

6. Material Abundance. Our modern age has brainwashed most people into believing that without money they are not materially rich. This is simply a clever marketing ploy aimed at making the perpetrators of the myth money-rich themselves. The truth is that God, who, you remember, didn’t invent money, created you to enjoy the fruits of the earth in abundance whether you have money or not. You simply don’t need a big house, a big yacht, a villa in Spain, a six-figure income, and four holidays a year to enjoy abundance. And the place to look? Well, it’s not in the man-made malls and supermarkets. It’s in nature. Wander through a wood in autumn and see the sheer abundance of food for free. Walk along a beach after a stormy sea to see what has been given you for free. Turn your small garden patch into a summertime larder. Look at the wonders of nature and you’ll never again believe that you must have lots of money to live happily and well.

And now for the key to your financial future. When you focus on these six areas of super-abundance – your endless gift for creativity, your infinite range of life choices, your unique talents, your inalienable right to health, your unlimited capacity to love, and the cornucopia of the natural world – you cannot help but live a wonderfully abundant life. If you really believe that abundance and wealth is already yours, you will create the seventh abundance with astonishing ease. And money will flow into your life as if by magic.

Learning To Be A Boss

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008
Wally Bock asked:

“Arghh!!”

Karen, ground her teeth as she looked down at her desk. Instead of the draft report she had expected when she got back from her meeting, there was a note from Ted. “I’ve still got some issues on the report,” the note said. “I don’t want to show it to you until it’s ready.”

Karen pushed back her chair and stood up. She paced back and forth in her cube, gesturing with her hands even though no one was there.

The final version of the report was due to her boss, “The Field Marshal,” on Monday. She would look terrible if the report was either late or not up to her boss’s high standards. Karen figured she was way too new in her position to risk looking bad.

She looked up, a little surprised to realize that she had walked the length of the corridor while she was thinking. She always did that when she was upset or excited. Walking just seemed to make her feel better.

She was going to need some help and she figured the best shot was one floor up. Karen climbed the stairs and headed toward a cubicle with the light on.

Trying to appear casual, she draped herself over the cubicle wall and addressed the occupant. “Got a sec?”

“Sure, pull up a chair and unload.”

Karen dropped into the only free chair. She exhaled heavily and stared down at her lap.

“Ted again?” asked Jim.

“How did you know?”

“Because nothing else seems to penetrate your armor of enthusiasm as quickly as he does. And because I know the signs. Anyone who’s been a boss for a while has had at least one Ted.”

“OK, then, smart guy,” Karen smiled, “how do I motivate him?”

Jim just stared at her. Karen flushed and reached into her purse. “OK, ok, I said the M word and now I’m going to pay.”

Jim had several rules for the people he mentored. One of them was that they couldn’t ever say that they were going to motivate someone else. Every time they said that, they had to pay a fine.

Jim extended a mason jar filled with coins and bills toward Karen. Theatrically, she withdrew money from her purse and dropped it into the jar. “At least I’m not the only one wracking up fines.”

The amount of the fine wasn’t much and Jim put it into a fund to buy educational supplies for the families of the people who cleaned the office.

“You can’t motivate another person,” he said over and over again. “All you can do is use the behavior you can control to influence the behavior of the people who work for you.”

Karen had sure heard that often enough from Jim, even though she hadn’t been a boss for very long. She had an undergraduate degree in business and an MBA. She’d worked during school and then started with the company in sales.

After her promotion, she was assigned to Ray’s unit. It was a high performance group, but Ray wasn’t always the easiest person to talk to about people problems. That was why Karen was glad she had met Jim.

It had started out as one of the worst days of her life.

She’d only been in her position for a couple of weeks and her boss, Ray, had sent her an email congratulating her on a piece of market analysis she’d just sent him.

For no particular reason except that she was pleased with herself and the compliment, she’d stopped by Ray’s office to talk about her dreams and hopes for the future.

He sat at his desk and listened politely for a couple of minutes. Then he raised his hand.

“Stop,” he said. “You just started working for me, so I’ll forgive this outburst. Know this. I don’t do chit-chat. If you’ve got something about work to talk to me about, my door is always open, but don’t waste my time with warm fuzzy stuff. Just do your job and do it well and things will work out just fine.”

Karen started to say something as Ray turned back to his work. He didn’t even look up. “Just go,” he said.

Karen was devastated. She went to the cafeteria and got some coffee. She was staring into it and listening to Ray’s words in her mind when she became aware that someone was standing in front of her.

“I understand you just got the Ray Treatment. Want some help dealing with your boss?”

“Sure.” Karen waved him toward a seat. “You’re Jim Robertson, right?”

Jim was supposed to be a good boss. His teams were always among the most productive in the company. Jim was also known for mentoring others, helping them develop and get promoted.

“And you’re Karen, the new star from the field who’s got to learn to work for Ray.”

“I’m not sure I’ve got much future with him.”

“Sure you do,” said Jim. “Ray’s actually a good boss.”

“A good boss? You heard what happened and you still say that?”

“OK, he has a few rough edges, but you’ll learn from him.”

“If I survive.”

“You’ll survive. Ray’s good and he’s fair. He’s not shy …”

“He could use a personality makeover.”

“Karen, you’ve got to learn to understand Ray. He’s your boss. It’s part of your job to help him succeed. When he’s in the office work is everything there is to him.”

“So I just learned. He doesn’t do chit-chat.”

“No, he doesn’t, but that’s OK. If you expect Ray to change or worse, if you expect to change him you’ll have lots of trouble.”

“I have no desire to change the man. I just want to survive.”

“That’s a start. Just limit your conversation with Ray to work and professional things and do your best to help him achieve his objectives. You’ll do more than just survive.”

But if you help him achieve objectives, talk to him about work and professional interests, and are always ready to act you’ll do quite well indeed.”

That had been the beginning. Karen, like many others at the company had found herself one of “Jim’s people.” Some were people who worked for him and others, like Karen, were simply people with whom he shared his wisdom.

Jim always seemed to have time for people. He was sincere and caring and, best of all for Karen, non-threatening. Karen had learned a lot from him.

Jim taught her that you manage behavior and that behavior was what people say and do. Nothing else.

He said you couldn’t manage attitude or motivation because you couldn’t see them; they were inside the other person. All you could manage, according to Jim, was behavior.

Karen remembered something else he’d told her right after they met. Jim told her that she had less power than before she was promoted.

“Think about it,” he said. “When you were an individual contributor and you wanted to get a better evaluation, or a raise, all you had to do was work harder or smarter. But now you’re responsible for your team and guess what? Their performance is your destiny.”

That was when he’d told her something else that she found startling at the time. “Remember,” he said, “you can’t make anybody do anything.”

That had stopped her cold. Karen had always figured that’s what a boss could do. But Jim pointed out that if a person was willing to take whatever consequences you delivered for improper performance, there simply wasn’t much you could do.

“What are you thinking?” Jim’s voice interrupted her reverie. “I don’t want to rush you, but I’ve got to head out to my meeting in just a couple of minutes.”

“I was just going over all your little lessons and sayings,” said Karen. She gave him a quick recap of what she’d been thinking.

“You forgot one,” Jim said, “You got the part about your power going down when you get promoted to being in charge of a group, but what about the other half?”

Karen jumped in as he was finishing. “I didn’t realize this was a quiz!” She laughed. “I forgot to mention that when you become a boss your influence goes up because the people who work for you pay attention to what you do and say.”

Jim was laughing now, “And …”

“And so,” said Karen sounding like she was reciting in school, “you use your behavior (what you say and do) to influence the behavior of the people who work for you.”

She paused. “All of this is wonderful, but it doesn’t help me with Ted.”

Jim was standing up. “I can’t chat right now. We could take some time tomorrow, but if you’re free this evening, you might want to come along with me. I’m headed to a meeting of a group we call the Supervisor’s Roundtable. It’s where I learned a lot of the stuff you were just reciting. I think you might find those answers you’re looking for in this group.”

Karen only thought about it for a second. “OK, I’m game. Who’s driving?”

“No need to drive. We meet at the coffee shop that’s over behind the parking garage. A convenient walk to wisdom.” Jim laughed. “Let’s go.”

Ramp Up Your Profits With Autorsponders

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008
John Abate asked:

The following paragraphs summarize the work of autoresponder experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of autoresponder. Heed their advice to avoid any autoresponder surprises.

An interested visitor who has been strolling through your site has finally come to just what she is looking for and is about to make a purchase. It’s a sunny afternoon, and her cat, who happens to be sitting on the moss under the visitor’s large fifty-year-old snow-rose bonsai tree, suddenly jumps down, and the priceless tree topples over. In the blink of an eye, your visitor exits your site, and your sale is dust – unless you have had the foresight to utilize an autoresponder that has captured her email address.

If you have installed an autoresponder, you can then follow-up with her, and in all probability, make the sale when the poor woman has finished repotting her precious bonsai. Autoresponders are remarkable, versatile programs that do so much more than just automatically answer your email. Here are a few ideas that will help you to creatively and productively use your autoresponder to transform the casual visitor into a profitable customer.

Use your autoresponder to: 1. Publish a newsletter. Certain quality autoresponders will manage subscriptions and follow-up with interested prospects. Your newsletter can keep your visitors informed about your services or products, while building your reputation as a credible expert in your particular business. 2. Publish a newsletter only for your affiliates. Inform them of current sales you are running and of promotional material that your affiliates can use themselves to increase their commissions.

Include tips, advice, and techniques that your affiliates can use to successfully go out and promote your business. 3. Write reviews. Cover books, software, music, e-books, movies, etc., and put each review in an autoresponder. Review your affiliate programs, using a link to your affiliate’s page in your autoresponder. 4. Distribute your articles. Writing and distributing targeted articles is a powerful tool to build your business credibility, bring traffic to your site, and increase your sales potential. If your articles contain valuable information, many editors will print what is known as a resource box for you. A resource box contains your bio and a brief description of your service or product. It can also contain your autoresponder address.

Let’s say you’ve written fifty articles. Put them on separate autoresponder accounts and create a master list that contains the titles of each article, the autoresponder address, and a brief abstract. Then promote your master list. Additionally, include your publishing guidelines so your affiliates can add their articles to your list, increasing the number of writers who are represented in your article list. 5. Create mailing lists. Inform subscribers to your articles when you’ve written new ones that they may want to publish in their own newsletter or website. 6. Automate your sales process. Use an ad to insure repeated exposure of your message, which has been proven to effectively increase sales. In your ad, put your autoresponder address where a visitor will be exposed to numerous marketing materials. This multiplies the chances of converting visitors into customers. For example, if you’re selling a particular product, put testimonials about how spectacular it is on your autoresponder, and add a detailed, enticing description of your product. You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about autoresponder.

Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far? 7. Distribute advertising. Let’s say you sell advertising on your website or in your newsletter or e-zine. Set your autoresponder to send the information about rates and how to place an ad automatically to all prospects’ email addresses. Then have your autoresponder follow-up. It can also send notification of any special deals you are currently offering. 8. Distribute an email course.

Each day, have your autoresponder send out another lesson. Just be sure that each lesson has quality content – not a sales pitch. Your content will do the selling for you, and will do it much more effectively. You can include tips centered on a different topic for each lesson, illustrating how your product will benefit the reader.

Include the tangible benefits the visitor will reap by purchasing your product. Make sure to include a paragraph or two at the end of each lesson enticing your prospect to consider making a purchase. 9. Automate a reminder about your service or product after a visitor has completed your course. This will increase the possibility of sales from visitors who have taken your course but are dragging their feet about actually making a purchase. You can also use these reminders to promote new products or services, and the products and services of your affiliate programs. 10. Distribute free reports. This gives your visitor an idea of the type of information you can provide and the quality of your product or service. Make sure these reports are not sales letters or you will more than likely lose a potential customer than gain a sale. 11. Create trivia quizzes on your site and place the answers in an autoresponder. Your visitor will then be motivated to request your autoresponder, and you will have a record of the visitors’ email addresses who took your quiz. Or create a contest and have any visitors that enter send their responses to your autoresponder. Your autoresponder can be set-up to send them a confirmation of their entry. 12. Offer a trial version of your product. Give your prospects a sample of your ebook, course, software, membership, etc. People who are exposed to a little taste often end up wanting the whole pie. You can also capture their email addresses when you offer them a free trial from your website. Set up your autoresponder to give instructions on how to obtain their free trial, and then make sure to follow-up to try and close the sale. 13. Link to hidden pages on your autoresponder. For example, a hidden page could be your affiliate page that contains graphics, promotional articles, and text links that interested affiliates can make use of. Inform visitors that they may have free access to your affiliate page by simply requesting your autoresponder.

You will then gather a list of visitors who may be interested in becoming your affiliates. 14. Use an autoresponder on your order page. Post a request form for visitors to be notified of special offers or discounts in the future. This creates a very effective mailing list that contains the names of people who are already your customers. 15. Put your links page on your autoresponder.

It should contain up to fifty links that would be of particular interest to your visitors. Make sure to add your own promotional copy at the top or bottom of this page. Now that you have proof that autoresponders can be used creatively, see if you can come up with some brilliant ideas of your own! Now you can understand why there’s a growing interest in autoresponder. When people start looking for more information about autoresponder, you’ll be in a position to meet their needs.

101 Balanced Food Choices for Permanent Weight Loss

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008
George Tohme asked:

Here is the ultimate meal, snack and beverage distribution throughout each day. Due to the restricted article size all the details about what is the amazing List A and List B of food, various other sample choices and many other lifesaving information tips and details on all issues related to food and activity choices and improving your meal choices when eating out are in the E-book mentioned above.

This meal and snack breakdown is the long awaited solution to the “diet” dilemma which enables to make balanced food choices from all food groups without cutting out any food group, counting calories or counting grams of this or that. Improve the choices of food ingredients from food you currently cook or choose while eating out and NEVER DIET AGAIN.

Breakfast:

Sample Choice #1 :

Cereal of choice from List A (one serving as indicated on the cereal box) and

Low fat milk or soy milk (enough to saturate the cereal) and/or

1 fruit (you may skip the fruit here and have it for a snack) and

Coffee or tea (black or sweetened with Splendid)

1 glass of water

Sample Choice #2, 3 or 4 will not be included in this article due to the size of the article.

P.S.

• Many restaurants offer whole grain bread, brown pasta and rice and pancakes made with whole grain flour, you just have to ask.

• I deliberately did not include juices because they typically contain a high amount of sugar, and an 8-ounce glass may have the equivalent of 3 or 4 oranges or apples and is less filling. Eating whole fruit is more filling and has more fiber. If you must have juice with your breakfast, then a 4 to 6 ounces glass is fine.

Snack:

1 fruit from List A (make a different fruit choice every time) and

1 glass of ice water (lemon, lime, orange slice, or sugar free flavoring powders available in delicious multiple flavors, can be added to your water for flavor)

Lunch

(See “Cooking methods” below for suggestions on cooking food other than frying):

Every meal needs to include a variety of veggies, a source of meat and a source of whole grain or a high fiber Curbs in the amounts of that imaginary average round size dinner plate; half a plate for the veggies, a quarter plate for lean meat or fish and the last quarter for the high fiber/complex curbs (for details on portion sizes refer to the 3 rd point titled “Portion sizes” from the top of the previous section):

Quantity/portion:

Enough to cover a half section of that average round size dinner plate

Proteins (choice of lean meat, pork, chicken or fish (from List A)

Beans can be substituted if meat is not desired

Quantity/ portion:

Select one choice of meat or a combination of two but enough to cover about a quarter section of that plate.

Whole Grains/ high fiber curbs (choices from List A) such as:

1 or 2 slices of whole grain bread or all the other variety of choices from List A

Quantity/portion:

Choose one or multiple choices of high fiber curbs from List A, enough to cover the last quarter section of that average round size plate.

Beverages

A glass of water or A diet soft drink or Iced tea (sweetened with Splenda or other sweeteners)

Snack : From List A

Sample choice # 1:

Mixed nuts (a half palm-full) or (other choices of nuts from “ Nuts and seeds” in the “Snacks” section towards the bottom of List A) and

1 fruit (different from fruits consumed earlier) and

1 glass of water

Sample choice #2 and 3 will not be included in this article:

How Can You Find A Good Quizzes Site

Monday, June 16th, 2008
Ayman Almoqbel asked:

There is no reservation that using internet is one of the great ways to increase and develop our information, knowledge, experience and also it has been used as an entertainment tool for all ages. Thus, there are many entertainment categories such as games, puzzles, movies,….. etc on the internet. However, what is the constructive type of entertainment that increase our comprehension?

One of these types is Quizzes games. What is quiz? it is a form of game or mind sport in which the players (as individuals or in teams), attempt to answer questions correctly. There are hundreds of sites or may be more providing Quizzes; but do they all add value to us! ( i.e. Quizzes that give us knowledge and increase our information ). Currently with a lot of sites on the internet today, it is tough to pick out the best combinations of fun and increasing information.

So, how can I find a practical and appropriate quizzes game site and what are the main circumstances that should be available in that site? there are many features should be existing, for instance free accessing to the quizzes is the first and most important feature ( free registration ) ; there are several reasons for that such as it will make the site more popular. Secondly, the quizzes game should be challenging; it different from site to site, some websites divide quizzes into levels and other choose time limitation for adding exciting to the web. In my opinion finding a site providing both ( Levels and Time limitation for challenging ) will be more attractive. Third, you must find one that will motivate you to challenge what you know and increase your talent in competition.

So, Quizzes games are great because they are just what their name suggests: games that provide us with fun, promote our knowledge at the same time, increase our information, making us feel that we don’t spend time for nothing in the contrary it evokes our emotions for more and more of spending valuable time on internet to learn, discover and communicate with others

How to Choose a Good Link Directory

Saturday, June 14th, 2008
Daniel Millions asked:

In choosing a directory in which to submit your link, consider the following factors.

First, the directory should have a good reputation. Some directories, especially the newer ones, may not have as much quality control as the more reputable directories. This means, they build link popularity by including almost any site without putting a premium on the quality of the site. Because of this, search engines such as Google give low value to the sites listed in these directories or ban them altogether. It is always better to submit your site to a directory that lists quality links rather than to a directory that accepts any link only to build link popularity.

Other factors are the cost of the listing and the time it takes to process it. Some directories charge a one-time fee of as low as $25 up to an annual fee of as much as nearly $300. The link can be listed in a few days. Free directories are the best option for low-budget sites. The trade-off, however, is the length of time it takes for the link to be included in the directory vary anywhere from a week to several months. In some cases, registration as a member or as a volunteer editor is also required.

This is true for the Open Directory Project or DMOZ (dmoz.org), which offers free listing. The links are screened by volunteer editors, and the processing takes anywhere from one to six months. In the end, however, it is well worth it because DMOZ is regarded as a reputable directory that lists only sites of good quality. As a webmaster, your goal should be to get your site listed in a high quality directory. Big name directories such as DMOZ can send you large amounts of traffic if you get your site listed, and you should make it your goal to get your site listed in the top link directories.

Other directories that come highly recommended are the following:

1. Yahoo Directory The Yahoo Directory ranks second to DMOZ in popularity. Users can get their links listed for free, or choose to pay a fee. Free listing can take months to process. Paid listing is usually completed in a few days. In contrast, it may take you weeks to get your site listed with free directories.

2. Zeal Non-commercial sites are listed for free, but only after completing a 20-question quiz. Processing takes one to two months. On the other hand, commercial sites are paid but are listed within a few days.

3. DM Web Directory provides paid listing. After submitting your link, it will be listed within a few days.

4. JoeAnt is gaining in popularity. Listing is free but requires registration as an editor before a link can be submitted.

5. Gimpsy is another directory providing options for both paid and free listing. Unlike other sites, it lists categories and links as answers to user questions.

Get Started Learning English Online Free

Thursday, June 12th, 2008
Warren Wong asked:

If you do not have any knowledge of English or if your exposure to the language has been minimal, you can avail of an English online free course. The course starts with the basics for beginners so that even a child (with the help of an adult) can take this course and become a fluent speaker and writer. It is not enough to be able to speak the language. You have to be able to write English as well so that you can correspond and communicate in many different ways. This will be advantageous to you if you plan to love or travel to an English speaking country and especially if you want to do business in such a country.

The beginning grammar lessons in an online English course start off with the basics. You will learn how to use one of the main verbs in the English language ?to be. In this lesson, you will hear and read short presentation dialogues and then receive instruction as to how to use these verbs. There will also be a list of vocabulary words used in the lesson and the grammar exercises provide short sentences for which you have to fill in the correct verb. Then you can take the quiz to see how well you have done in the lesson. Even though the focus of the lesson is on the conjugation of the verb be? you receive exposure to other facets of the language, such as the placement of verbs in a sentence, the pronouns used with the verbs and the punctuation at the end of the sentence.

The lessons in an online English course are like building blocks. Each one builds on the previous lesson, so that what you learn in one lesson will help you in the subsequent ones. You can review the material as often as you wish and complete the practice exercises and quizzes as many times as you feel you need to until you are comfortable that you understand the concept. There are listening exercises to go along with the topics as well, so in this way you get a double dose of the material as well as exposure to listening to native English speakers.

Learning online is also fun with the many games and other resources available to you. Games are a part of learning English, even with native speakers. Through vocabulary and word games you increase your vocabulary with the thousands of words used in these ways.

As you advance through the course, you can utilize many other resources, such as reading short books in English at your own pace. You can even test yourself with how you speak the language by recording your speech and them comparing it with the speakers for the passages. Read newspapers, learn how to write an essay or do research and gain important information about daily conversations about the weather, aspects of campus life and talking about your family.

There is no doubt that when you complete an online course in English you will be very knowledgeable about the language and how to use it properly in your interactions with others. However, you do have to be motivated to keep studying, so whatever reason you have for learning English should be uppermost in your mind.
