However, currently most instructors have been reluctant to fully rely upon online assessments because of the difficulty associated with including symbols and equations. Now with Wondershare QuizCreator, the process is quick and easy in a few clicks. Both instructors and students can simply enter texts, symbols and equations in online assessments without all the usual hurdles.

Major types of supported equations in QuizCreator:

English Learning Made Easy

Saturday, April 12th, 2008
Warren Wong asked:

It has been said that English is the hardest language to learn, but when you take online lessons, you will find that English learning is quite easy. This is because with these lessons you can choose your own schedule and review each lesson as many times as you wish so that you fully understand all the concepts. Even if you attend classes to help you learn English you can benefit greatly from taking an online course English along with the instruction you receive in school. Most of the English courses offered online are free and will give you extra instruction and practice in areas where you are encountering some difficulty.

If you are just beginning to learn English, you can stay at home and complete your education instead of having to move to an English speaking country. The online course offers lists of vocabulary with every lesson that will increase your knowledge of the language. In the lessons you will learn the correct way to use these vocabulary words. Each grammar lesson comes complete with explanations and examples as well as practice sheets where you can show that you understand the lesson. When you feel comfortable with the new concept then you can take a quiz and receive your grade immediately. This is different than taking a quiz in class where you have to wait for the instructor to grade the quiz.

Any course in English should contain aspects of the four fields of the language, which are reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is essential that you be able to do all of these four things with each lesson so that you know you can use the concept in your own speaking and writing English. While you may understand the concept by simply reading an explanation of it, you do need practice in using it yourself.

Listening to native English speakers is essential in a course. Once you do understand the language enough to read a sentence or a passage, then you need to hear it being read by a native English speaker so that you learn the correct pronunciation of the words. Make a recording of yourself reading the same passage and compare how well you pronounce the words. When you first start doing this you will likely have a very strong accent depending on your native language, but as you speak English more and more, you will be able to pronounce many of the words without an accent.

All courses start off with very simple concepts and gradually move to the more difficult ones. The beginning lesson in just about every online course deals with greeting others and introducing yourself. These early lessons also deal with talking about the weather, discussing time and forming simple sentences to discuss objects and places.

You will not be learning in isolation when you take an online course and study from home. You will have access to a message board where you can communicate with others in the class and the instructor. You do need to learn how to write messages in English to help you use and practice what you learn in the lessons.

Are You Caught in Societal Eating Habits? Here’s a Health Quiz for Eating and Weight Issues

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008
Kathleen Fuller asked:

Take Inventory of Societal Attitudes and Your Eating Style.

By Kathleen Fuller, Ph.D.

The path and the process when healing eating issues and weight issues involve many convoluted and confusing choices. Your healing journey is unique, but certain behavioral similarities are fundamental at the start for nearly everyone who is affected.

First point you should know is that the sociocultural roots of eating issues and weight issues are hidden deep in plain view. We can look for them in the silent and generally accepted expectations we hold about the world in which we live. These commonly held expectations are primarily formed by the combined attitudes of people who comprise this culture and society.

Ask yourself:  what can you do to uncover these deeply entrenched sociocultural systems that each of us has? How about taking stock of the conscious and unconscious influence these expectations hold on us individually?  That could be your first step to freeing yourself from them forever, and living the principles of healthy eating.

You can find out for yourself how immune or immersed you are in these biases, by completing the Health Quiz for Eating Habits and Weight Issues by answering “yes” or “no” to the following questions. The totaled answers may surprise you, but they can also act as a wake-up call or a catalyst.

Health Quiz for Eating Habits and Weight Issues

Have you ever:

(1) Thought constantly about food or talked incessantly about dieting?

(2) Felt overwhelming emotional stress?

(3) Felt depressed with low self-esteem over several weeks, months, or longer?

(4) Felt out of control?

(5) Believed that all it takes to conquer weight issues and eating issues is willpower?

(6) Tried to restrict your diet to lose weight gained from overeating?

(7) Felt guilty or ashamed about your eating habits or patterns?

(8) Started eating, then found you couldn’t stop?

(9) Eaten so much at night that you could hardly get up in the morning?

(10)  Experienced relationship or family problems because of overeating, dieting, bingeing or purging?

(11) Held high expectations or standards for yourself and others?

(12) Told family what you think they want to hear about your eating habits, rather than the truth?

(13) Maintained a lower or higher than average weight?

(14) Gorged yourself, then used exercise, vomiting, or laxatives so you wouldn’t gain weight?

(15) Placed overt importance on your physical appearance?

(16) Admitted physical appearance is of ultimate importance to your family and/or yourself?

(17)  Experienced swollen glands from vomiting?

(18)  Experienced menstrual irregularities?

(19)  Felt compelled to monitor what you or your children ate?

If you answered yes for one to five of these questions, then you’re reading this at a good time.

If you answered yes to five to ten questions, it’s a wake-up call. Pay attention to the warning signs of weight issues and eating issues now and begin seeking help. Implementing a commitment is a good first step.

If you answered yes to ten to fifteen questions, consider employing the help of a qualified therapist as you use other tips and tools, for the sake of your health and well-being.

If you or someone you know can answer yes to fifteen or more questions, it’s time for immediate action or a personal intervention.  Healthy eating has been absent and your life or the life of someone you love may be at stake.

First Steps to Healing

You’ve already done the first step by completing the Health Quiz for Eating Habits and Weight Issues. This showed you where you are in relation to societal attitudes about food and weight. The next step is equally important.  Make a commitment to become sincerely involved in techniques, exercises, and the process of actually living the principles of healthy eating.  After you make your commitment to “walk the walk,” your life will change forever.

Free biweekly newsletters loaded with tips and tools for eating issues and weight issues are at my website. You’ll gain understanding on how to establish healthy eating in the easiest way possible.  Go and sign up now and receive free excerpts from my book Not Your Mother’s Diet.

War and Peace

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008
avian asked:

The Russian words for “peace” (pre-1918: “????”) and “world” (pre-1918: “????”) are homonyms and since the 1918 reforms have been spelled identically, which lead to an urban legend saying that the original manuscript was called “????? ? ????” so the novel’s title would be correctly translated as “War and the World”. However, Tolstoy himself translated the title into French as “La guerre et la paix” (”War and Peace”). The urban legend has been perhaps fueled by the Soviet TV quiz show ?to? Gde? Kogda? (???? ???? ??????), which in 1982 presented as a correct answer the “world” variant, based on a 1913 edition of “World and Peace” with a misprint in the title. In contrast, there is also a (unrelated) poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky called “????? ? ????” (i.e. “????” as “world”), written in 1916.

War and Peace offered a new kind of fiction, with a great many characters caught up in a plot that covered nothing less than the grand subjects indicated by the title, combined with the equally large topics of youth, age and marriage. While today it is considered a novel, it broke so many novelistic conventions of its day that many critics of Tolstoy’s time did not consider it as such. Tolstoy himself considered Anna Karenina (1878) to be his first attempt at a novel in the European sense.

Overview

War and Peace depicts a huge cast of characters, both historical and fictional, the majority of whom are introduced in the first book. At a soirée given by Anna Pavlovna Scherer in July 1805, the main players and families of the novel are made known. Pierre Bezukhov is the illegitimate son of a wealthy count who is dying of stroke, and becomes unexpectedly embroiled in a tussle for inheritance. Intelligent and ironic, Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, husband of a charming wife, finds little comfort in married life, instead choosing to be aide-de-camp of Kutuzov in their coming war against Napoleon. We learn too of the Moscow Rostov family, with four adolescent children, of which the vivacious younger daughter Natalya Rostova (”Natasha”) and impetuous older Nikolai Rostov are the most memorable. At Bald Hills, Prince Andrei leaves his pregnant wife to his eccentric father and devout sister Maria Bolkonskaya and leaves for war.

If there is a central character to War and Peace it is Pierre Bezukhov, the illegitimate son of a wealthy count, who upon receiving an unexpected inheritance is suddenly burdened with the responsibilities and conflicts of a Russian nobleman. His former carefree behavior vanishes and he enters upon a philosophical quest particular to Tolstoy: how should one live a moral life in an imperfect world? He attempts to free his peasants and improve his estate, but ultimately achieves nothing. He enters into marriage with Prince Kuragin’s beautiful and immoral daughter Elena, against his own better judgement.

Elena and her brother Anatoly then conspire together for Anatoly to seduce and dishonor the young and beautiful Natasha Rostova. Pierre rescues her, but recoils from his feeling of love for her. When Napoleon invades Russia, Pierre observes the Battle of Borodino up close by standing near a Russian artillery crew and he learns how bloody and horrific war really is. When Napoleon’s Grand Army occupies an abandoned and burning Moscow, Pierre takes off on a quixotic mission to assassinate Napoleon and is captured as a prisoner of war. After witnessing French soldiers sacking Moscow and shooting Russian civilians, Pierre is forced to march with the Grand Army during its disastrous retreat from Moscow. He is later freed bssian raiding party. His wife Elena dies sometime during Napoleon’s invasion and Pierre is reunited with Natasha while the victorious Russians rebuild Moscow. Pierre finds love at last and marries Natasha, while Nikolai marries Maria Bolkonskaya. Andrey, who was also in love with Natasha, is wounded during Napoleon’s invasion and eventually dies after being reunited with Natasha before the end of the war.

Tolstoy vividly depicts the contrast between Napoleon and the Russian general Kutuzov, both in terms of personality and in the clash of armies. Napoleon chose wrongly, opting to march on to Moscow and occupy it for five fatal weeks, when he would have been better off destroying the Russian army in a decisive battle. General Kutuzov believes time to be his best ally, and refrains from engaging the French, who ultimately destroy themselves as they limp back toward the French border. They are all but destroyed by a final Cossack attack as they straggle back toward Paris.

How to Attract More Business With Proven Marketing Strategy

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008
Adam Urbanski asked:

Most new clients are skeptical at best when I explain to them how changing their marketing approach can actually make prospects come to them. They definitely don’t believe it when I tell them marketing can be easy and fun. But it all changes when their phone starts ringing off the hook and new money is rolling in…

First, a bit of a backdrop story: why your marketing doesn’t work.

Chances are before you started your own business you had a fair share of experience working for a larger company which probably used many of the “traditional” marketing approaches like fancy brochures, big ads, sales force cold-calling on potential clients – just to name a few.

So when you started your business you probably thought the way to go is to do what they were doing, only to discover that this approach costs a small fortune and doesn’t generate nearly the type of response you need to stay in business.

Fortunately, there are better ways to attract new clients…

And they don’t require spending hours on networking events, cold-calling on strangers, and arm-wrestling so-so prospects into making a buying a decision. But how – you ask?

Let’s suppose for a minute that instead of creating your next promotional piece your job was to help your best client solve one of their nagging problems.

For example - let’s say you are a business management consultant who wants to attract more clients.

A “traditional” approach would be to whip up some sort of one-sheet-type flier or brochure that would say something like “I’m a hot-shot consultant, I graduated from an impressive university, I have half a dozen of accreditations and designations and all the initials behind my last name to prove it, I can help your company solve 101 problems listed below, and here is the jaw-dropping list of satisfied clients I already worked with.”

Materials like this could help further establish your credibility at a later stage of developing relationships with your prospects but they are terrible for generating leads.

And while it’s exciting to see all that great stuff about you written in a neat brochure, there is one huge problem with it – it’s only exciting to you. If you distribute it to your potential clients, it will be quickly and efficiently relegated to a circular file next to their desk.

Instead, imagine that you wrote a short article addressing one of the big problems you know your current and potential clients struggle with. To continue with the example of a management consultant it could be something like “The Hidden Costs of Excessive Turnover; Top 7 Ways to Hold on to Your Best Employees.” Or “5 Time Management Myths that Are Killing Your Productivity and How to Fix Them.”

You get the idea, right? OK, so it’s time for a quick quiz. Answer these simple questions:

1) What would your prospects rather read:

a) your bio (or other boring sales brochure), or…

b) an educational article filled with helpful tips and ideas?

2) Which of the two items would your potential clients be more likely to request from you on their own and then forward to their peers and colleagues:

a) your sales brochure, or…

b) a special report (a.k.a. white paper) addressing one of their key problems?

3) Finally, which of the two items would have a higher chance of being published in an industry publication and do a better job of positioning you as the authority on solving a specific problem:

a) your one-sheet, or…

b) 500- to 1500-words article filled with specific how-to tips?

If you answered “b” in all three cases, you’re 100% correct.

What I just described to you is a simple shift from a “traditional”, sales-focused approach, to something often referred to as education-based or attraction marketing.

It really doesn’t matter what you call it. Bottom line - if you are willing to stop viewing your marketing as a way to GET people to buy from you, and instead explore how your promotions could actually HELP potential clients solve some of their biggest problems - you might experience two pleasant phenomena.

One, because promoting yourself will become a natural extension of what you already love doing – which is helping your clients solve their problems - you will enjoy spending more time and effort working on marketing your business.

And two, your phone will actually start ringing so often, you’ll be forced to turn some of the less-qualified prospects away! (Now – that’s a new thought!)

How To Creatively And Profitably Use Your Autoresponder

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008
Jim Boere asked:

Copyright 2005 Jim Boere

An interested visitor who has been strolling through your site has finally come to just what she is looking for and is about to make a purchase. It’s a sunny afternoon, and her cat, who happens to be sitting on the moss under the visitor’s large fifty-year-old snow-rose bonsai tree, suddenly jumps down, and the priceless tree topples over.

In the blink of an eye, your visitor exits your site, and your sale is dust - unless you have had the foresight to utilize an autoresponder that has captured her email address. If you have installed an autoresponder, you can then follow-up with her, and in all probability, make the sale when the poor woman has finished repotting her precious bonsai.

Autoresponders are remarkable, versatile programs that do so much more than just automatically answer your email. Here are a few ideas that will help you to creatively and productively use your autoresponder to transform the casual visitor into a profitable customer. Use your autoresponder to:

1. Publish a newsletter. Certain quality autoresponders will manage subscriptions and follow-up with interested prospects. Your newsletter can keep your visitors informed about your services or products, while building your reputation as a credible expert in your particular business.

2. Publish a newsletter only for your affiliates. Inform them of current sales you are running and of promotional material that your affiliates can use themselves to increase their commissions. Include tips, advice, and techniques that your affiliates can use to successfully go out and promote your business.

3. Write reviews. Cover books, software, music, eBooks, movies, etc., and put each review in an autoresponder. Review your affiliate programs, using a link to your affiliate’s page in your autoresponder.

4. Distribute your articles. Writing and distributing targeted articles is a powerful tool to build your business credibility, bring traffic to your site, and increase your sales potential.

If your articles contain valuable information, many editors will print what is known as a ‘resource box’ for you. A resource box contains your bio and a brief description of your service or product. It can also contain your autoresponder address. Let’s say you’ve written fifty articles. Put them on separate autoresponder accounts and create a master list that contains the titles of each article, the autoresponder address, and a brief abstract. Then promote your master list. Additionally, include your publishing guidelines so your affiliates can add their articles to your list, increasing the number of writers who are represented in your article list.

5. Create mailing lists. Inform subscribers to your articles when you’ve written new ones that they may want to publish in their own newsletter or on their website.

6. Automate your sales process. Use an ad to insure repeated exposure of your message, which has been proven to effectively increase sales. In your ad, put your autoresponder address where a visitor will be exposed to numerous marketing materials. This multiplies the chances of converting visitors into customers. For example, if you’re selling a particular product, put testimonials about how spectacular it is on your autoresponder, and add a detailed, enticing description of your product.

7. Distribute advertising. Let’s say you sell advertising on your website or in your newsletter or eZine. Set your autoresponder to send the information about rates and how to place an ad automatically to all prospects’ email addresses. Then have your autoresponder follow-up. It can also send notification of any special deals you are currently offering.

8. Distribute an email course. Each day, have your autoresponder send out another lesson. Just be sure that each lesson has quality content - not a sales pitch. Your content will do the selling for you, and will do it much more effectively. You can include tips centered on a different topic for each lesson, illustrating how your product will benefit the reader. Include the tangible benefits the visitor will reap by purchasing your product. Make sure to include a paragraph or two at the end of each lesson enticing your prospect to consider making a purchase.

9. Automate a reminder about your service or product after a visitor has completed your course. This will increase the possibility of sales from visitors who have taken your course but are dragging their feet about actually making a purchase. You can also use these reminders to promote new products or services, and the products and services of your affiliate programs.

10. Distribute free reports. This gives your visitor an idea of the type of information you can provide and the quality of your product or service. Make sure these reports are not sales letters or you will more than likely lose a potential customer than gain a sale.

11. Create trivia quizzes on your site and place the answers in an autoresponder. Your visitor will then be motivated to request your autoresponder, and you will have a record of the visitors’ email addresses who took your quiz. Or create a contest and have any visitors that enter send their responses to your autoresponder. Your autoresponder can be set-up to send them a confirmation of their entry.

12. Offer a trial version of your product. Give your prospects a sample of your eBook, course, software, membership, etc. People who are exposed to a little taste often end up wanting the whole pie. You can also capture their email addresses when you offer them a free trial from your website. Set up your autoresponder to give instructions on how to obtain their free trial, and then make sure to follow-up to try and close the sale.

13. Link to hidden pages on your autoresponder. For example, a hidden page could be your affiliate page that contains graphics, promotional articles, and text links that interested affiliates can make use of. Inform visitors that they may have free access to your affiliate page by simply requesting your autoresponder. You will then gather a list of visitors who may be interested in becoming your affiliates.

14. Use an autoresponder on your order page. Post a request form for visitors to be notified of special offers or discounts in the future. This creates a very effective mailing list that contains the names of people who are already your customers.

15. Put your links page on your autoresponder. It should contain up to fifty links that would be of particular interest to your visitors. Make sure to add your own promotional copy at the top or bottom of this page.

Now that you have proof that autoresponders can be used creatively, see if you can come up with some brilliant ideas of your own!
